Pcdocpro reviews for Speed Up Broadband Tips

Fix and Speed Up Your Broadband Connection

I think it’s safe to say that once you go broadband, dial up soon becomes an antiquated, fading memory. Whether you have DSL or cable, a broadband internet connection can deliver all the content of the internet at near “instant gratification” speeds; no more dropped connection due to phone calls; no more piercing screech as your dial up modem talks to your ISP; no more waiting as data comes crawling in at an agonizing pace through your narrow 56k pipe. But, of course, broadband isn’t perfect. My DSL connection must have fizzled out several times at least last week, and I’ve also noticed that my speed seems to have been diminished lately. Broadband internet certainly isn’t cheap, so make sure that you’re squeezing every bit of binary juice out of your connection; let’s enumerate a few tips to ensure that your broadband connection is in optimal condition and that you’re getting the stability and speed that you’re paying for.

Fixing Broadband Downtime

A familiar scenario: boot up your PC only to realize that your internet connection is dead in water. Before you call tech support and they put you in a 35 minute waiting queue, try a few of these tips to see if they fix your downtime issue. If you’re not using a router, and your broadband modem is plugged directly into your PC, shutdown your PC and unplug your modem for about one minute. Plug your modem back in and wait for all the lights to signify a successful connection; sometimes this can take a while, as often the cause of downtime is on your ISP’s side. This techniques works more often than not.

If you’ve a router serving data to several computers on your home network, do the modem power cycle first; if this doesn’t fix the issue, login to your router’s settings page which can often be accessed by opening a browser and locally surfing over to http://192.168.1.1/. I use a Linksys router, so when I need to resuscitate my connection I head over to the Status tab and perform a DHCP Release and a DHCP Renew, which usually solves the problem right away.

Connection Speed Baseline

Before you can start to soup-up your broadband, it’s a good idea to get a baseline reading of your up and down stream speeds. A popular speed testing site is sppedtest.net. Get a reading of your speeds at various times of the day so that you can get a general reading, and be sure to test your upstream/downstream speeds after midnight, as bandwidth isn’t as in demand as in during peak hours.

Newest Hardware and Software

For an optimal broadband experience, ask your ISP to send you a new modem if yours is more than a few years old; they won’t usually charge you for this request. You might see a speed boost when you switch to a more up-to-date modem. Also, the software that gets embedded into your modem—the firmware—should also be updated to its latest, most stable version to ensure the best performance possible out of your broadband hardware.

How’s Your Line Quality?

Determine if your speed test numbers after midnight—off-peak hours—match up to your ISP’s plan specifications. If not, then you may have an issue with your wiring. The first thing you need to find out is whether the signal is already diminished as it reaches your house or if your wiring is the culprit. In order to test the line quality, move your Cable broadband modem to where the wire is divided and test it again. If you don’t see an improvement, it may be time to seek help from tech support to fix your line. If you’ve a DSL modem, ensure that all your landline phones have filters where they connect into the wall.

Broadband is great; it’s fast, always on, and getting cheaper as technological improvements take us into the future. But when your connection is acting up, or if you just want to turbo-charge it, getting as much throughput as you can, try a few of our tips to boost your network performance.

PCDOCPRO Quick Solve Your Run Time Error

Causes and Fixes for Runtime Errors

What is computer "runtime?" Runtime refers to the time during which any of your computers programs is operating, and a runtime error is simply an error which occurs during that time. What causes runtime errors?

You may be getting runtime errors for variety of reasons, but fortunately for you, runtime errors are not nearly as dangerous as system crashes. Not so fortunately, runtime errors are a sign that something is going wrong, and that a system crash may occur in the near future. If you're experiencing runtime errors, you need to take steps to locate and fix the reasons for them.

What are the most common causes of runtime errors?

  • A lack of sufficient memory (RAM) for the program you want to run.
  • A virus infection
  • Spyware or adware which has attached itself to the program without your knowledge
  • A Windows Registry error
  • An internal problem with the program's drivers or files

In some instances, your PC itself may be able to identify the reason for the error and inform you. If, however, you have the bad luck to be getting runtime errors due to a PC virus, Trojan, or worm infection, you'll have to spend some time tracking down the nature of the infection.

How are runtime errors repaired?

Your PC is equipped to notify you when it experiences one of more than 60 specific common runtime errors. When you're PC has identified the runtime area, you can do an Internet search to locate a forum in which that particular errors discussed, and possibly find a fix. Just keep in mind that many of the people posting runtime error fixes in those forums may have more advanced technical knowledge than you do.

In order to accurately describe your runtime error in one of these forms, you'll have to copy and paste its source code, providing all the details both on the error message, and on the stack traces. Without this sort of detailed information, people offering advice and the forms may not correctly understand the nature of your error.

Even if your runtime error is correctly diagnosed, you may not be up to the task of implementing the fix recommended. Suppose your error is the result of Java defects-related applet errors? Do you even know what that means?

While most of the people offering advice and runtime error forums are willing to supply step-by-step guidance in how to fix them, you may still be in over your head. Altering your PC's source code unless you're absolutely confident in what you're doing can cause far more damage than the runtime error itself!

Because so many runtime errors occur simply due to bad data in the Windows registry, why not run a registry cleaning tool to scan, identify, and remove any erroneous entries in the registry and see if that fixes your problem? One excellent registry cleaning tool is PC Doctor Pro.

Finding and Repairing Internet Explorer Errors

As all of January 2009, Microsoft Internet explorer had a 72% share of the PC browser market. While IE's market share has declined over the past five years with the introduction of browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Opera, it is still the dominant player in the browser market. That dominance, however, doesn't come without some significant drawbacks for IE browser users.

Its huge popularity has made Internet Explorer the primary target for Mal lawyer including viruses, worms, and Trojans. What this means is that with each new release or upgrade, Internet Explorer's users have to contend not only with bugs in the new IE programming; they may be facing an entire new generation of viruses and other malicious threats.

Ironically, however, many of the patches and security operates which Microsoft has released in order to protect IE users from now where have often caused additional problems for them. These problems may surface as PCs which freeze, respond more slowly, or keep flashing error messages. When your PC through the error message your way, it will normally give you two options: you can either keep running program, and pretend the problem doesn't exist; or you can close the program. Problem: Insufficient RAM

Fix: Use your Task Manager to shut down any unnecessary applications in Windows. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to open Task Manager for a look at all the programs, including the background programs, which are running and using your memory. Close the ones you don't need. Using a registry cleaning tool to free space on your Windows registry will also free up RAM.

Problem: Your PC has been infected with a virus or worm
